Tinnitus
Tinnitus is unique to the person experiencing it. But ultimately it is the sensation of hearing a sound when there is no external source for that sound. Someone with tinnitus may hear ringing, buzzing, hissing, whistling or other noises. Tinnitus can be there all the time or come and go. The volume of someone’s tinnitus can vary from one episode to the next.
Rhinitis
Rhinitis is the medical term for the inflammation of the mucous membrane inside the nose. It causes symptoms like sneezing, a blocked or runny nose, and nasal itching
Bat ears
Bat ears (or prominent ears) refer to ears that stick out further than average, usually caused by genetics or underdeveloped cartilage folds. They pose no medical risk but can cause self-consciousness. At Kingston Private Health we offer corrective surgery (pinnaplasty/otoplasty) for bat ears.
Ear infections
Our ENT surgeons can offer treatment options for recurring ear infections.
Hearing loss
If you're experiencing hearing loss, you can book an appointment convenient to you to discuss your symptoms with one of our consultants.
Vertigo
Vertigo is a sensation of spinning or swaying, most commonly caused by inner ear disorders that affect your balance. Book an appointment with one of our ENT consultants who will be able to diagnosis and treat your balance-related issues.
Allergies
If your nasal symptoms are not being managed, a consultation with one of our specialists will give you a clearer picture of whether allergies or sinusitis is the issue and offer a treatment plan.
Some of the most common ENT surgical and non-surgical procedures performed by our specialists include:
Adenoidectomy
A common procedure to remove enlarged or infected adenoids.
Epley's manoeuvre for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)
BPPV is a common cause of dizziness. It occurs in people of all ages but is more common in middle-aged and elderly people. It causes short bursts of intense dizziness when the body or head is placed in certain positions such as lying on one side in bed or looking upwards. People can feel sick and are sometimes unsteady for a few hours after the dizziness has gone away. BPPV can usually be cured using the home Epley manoeuvre. This is a simple treatment that involves you turning your head in a series of movements.
Functional endoscopic sinus surgery
This is a minimally invasive, 30–60 minute procedure used to treat chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, or recurring infections by clearing blocked sinuses using small telescopes and cameras inserted through the nostrils.
Insertion of grommets
Some people get a build up of fluid behind the eardrum. This is sometimes called “glue ear”. It is very common in young children, but can happen in adults too. We do not know exactly what causes glue ear. Grommets are tiny tubes inserted into the eardrum. They allow air to pass through the eardrum, keeping the air pressure on either side equal.
Microlaryngoscopy
Microlaryngoscopy is performed to find and treat problems of the voice box, such as the cause of a hoarse voice, or if your voice box looks unusual
Nasal septoplasty
If you have a blocked nose because of a bent nasal septum, the operation would be recommended to make it easier for you to breathe through the nose.
Suction clearance of ear and nasal cautery
Suction clears ear wax and debris safely, while cautery seals fragile vessels to stop recurrent nosebleeds.
The first step for any patient is usually an initial consultation. Unless your GP or insurer has told you otherwise, you should book your first appointment with a member of our Ear, Nose and Throat team.
