Orthopaedic surgery is a specialised area of medicine that helps treat conditions affecting your bones, joints, and the surrounding soft tissues.
You may need to have orthopaedic surgery after an injury or trauma such as from a fall or playing sports.
Our team provide rapid diagnosis and the effective treatment and management for the majority of orthopaedic conditions.
Our expert team of consultants can diagnose and treat issues with your musculoskeletal system, which includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles. Below are some of the reasons we see patients.
Persistent or severe pain
Ongoing joint, back, or neck pain.
Trauma injuries
Fractures, sprains, dislocations and torn ligaments or tendons.
Chronic conditions
Management of degenerative conditions such as osetoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or osteoporosis.
Sports injuries
Tailored care for patients dealing with repetitive strain injury or acute physical trauma.
Spinal cord compression
If the nerves in your spine are compressed, you might experience pain, weakness or numbness.
Carpal tunnel surgery
Carpal tunnel surgery is an operation to relieve the symptoms of the condition by cutting a ligament in your wrist. The ligament runs across the top of your wrist bones and creates a narrow channel in your wrist. This channel is called the carpal tunnel and inside it are tendons and the median nerve, which controls some of the movement in your hand.
Cartilage regeneration procedures
Cartilage regeneration is a surgical technique used to repair damaged joint surfaces, primarily in the knee or ankle. Because mature cartilage lacks its own blood supply, it cannot heal on its own. Procedures range from marrow-stimulating surgeries (like microfracture) to advanced cell therapies that grow new tissue.
Dupuytren’s contracture treatment
Dupuytren's contracture, also known as Dupuytren's Disease, is a progressive condition that causes one or more fingers to curl inward toward the palm. It can significantly impact hand function and daily activities. We offer expert diagnosis and advanced surgical treatment, including Dupuytren’s fasciectomy, to help restore hand function and improve your quality of life.
Hip surgery
Including total hip replacement, hip resurfacing, minimal incision hip replacement and revision hip surgery.
Knee arthroscopy
A knee arthroscopy (keyhole knee surgery) allows your surgeon to see inside your knee using a camera inserted through small cuts on your skin. Your surgeon can diagnose problems such as a torn cartilage, ligament damage and arthritis. For many people the problem can be treated at the same time.
Knee injection therapy
Knee injections for conditions like osteoarthritis deliver medication directly into the joint to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and improve mobility.
Partial knee replacement
A partial knee replacement is a surgical procedure that replaces only the damaged cartilage and bone in one of the three compartments of the knee. It is less invasive than a total knee replacement, offering a faster recovery and a more natural-feeling joint.
Patella realignment and stabilisation
Patella realignment and stabilisation are surgical procedures designed to keep your kneecap properly centered within its groove. These operations are recommended for patients experiencing recurrent dislocations or chronic instability that fails to improve with physiotherapy.
Shoulder arthroscopy
Shoulder arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) is a minimally invasive procedure where a surgeon inserts a tiny camera (arthroscope) and specialised instruments through small skin cuts to diagnose and treat joint problems. Our consultants use this procedure to investigate unexplained pain and perform repairs for conditions such as rotator cuff tears:, shoulder instability, subacromial decompression and frozen shoulder.
Total knee replacement
A total knee replacement (also called knee arthroplasty) surgery involves replacing damaged parts of your knee joint with metal or plastic parts. It is most commonly used to treat pain and stiffness in the knee joint caused by osteoarthritis. It may be recommended if other treatments or lifestyle changes have not worked and knee pain is affecting your daily life. Knee replacements can last for 20 years or more and can significantly improve daily life for people with knee pain.
Trapeziectomy
A trapeziectomy is the surgical removal of the trapezium—a small bone at the base of the thumb. Highly effective for treating severe thumb base osteoarthritis, it relieves "bone-on-bone" pain by eliminating the arthritic joint surfaces, allowing scar tissue to form a cushion for the thumb.
The first step for any patient is usually an initial consultation. Unless your GP or insurer has told you otherwise, you should book your first appointment with a member of our orthopaedic team.
